Breakfast Series : "Getting Your Point Across: Lessons from a Lobbyist."

Description: We're excited to announce our May breakfast featuring Alexandra Calcagno. Alex Calcagno is Director of Federal Relations and Community Relations for the Massachusetts Medical Society and is responsible for advocating the Medical Society's position before the United States Congress, White House and Executive Agencies.  She is also the primary liaison with national medical specialty and health care organizations, including the AMA and AHA, on legislative concerns. Alex develops political education programs including legislative education conferences designed to help physicians become active players in the legislative process.  Prior to joining the Medical Society, Alex served as the Assistant Director of the American Academy of Pediatrics Office of Government Liaison in Washington, D.C. a position she held for ten years.  In this role she lobbied nationally on behalf of children's health care for a national medical organization.  Her first entry into the political arena was as Assistant Press Secretary for United States Representative M. Caldwell Butler.

Join us for a glimpse into the life of a lobbyist and an interactive discussion on how to get your point across.

Description: Tomorrow’s Women Today would like to invite you to join us for a pilot of our “Career Solutions Peer Mentoring Brain Trust” (ok, so perhaps we can brainstorm a better name) which is structured to be an informal dialogue among members where you can bring forth workplace challenges, scenarios, etc. that may be bothering or impacting you (either positively or negatively) and in a
confidential, friendly environment, gain feedback from others in terms of what
to would do, how to would handle the situation, etc.  The goal of this forum is
to share ideas and bounce things off one another in order to arm each other with useful options and approaches to the situations that arise during our hectic
work lives.

Mass Women's Forum Description: This member only event will provide members with anopportunity to sit with Carol to learn about her experiences over the past year  asa  Representative of the United States of America to the Sixty-fifth Session of theGeneral Assembly of the United Nations.  Carol has been an instrumental supporter of Tomorrow's Women TODAY and we are honored and excited to be provided with  this intimate opportunity.  Carol is the Senior Vice President of Brand Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility for John Hancock Financial headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. Prior to joining John Hancock, Ms. Fulp served as Director of Community Programming and Human Resources for WCVB, Boston’s ABC-TV affiliate.  She also served as Employee Relations Manager for the Gillette Company. Ms. Fulp currently serves as a trustee of the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library Foundation and as a member of the Harvard Kennedy School’s Women’s Leadership Board.  Governor Deval Patrick appointed her to the board of directors of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority in 2009 and Mayor Thomas Menino appointed her as a trustee to the Boston Public Library, the oldest public library in the country, in 2010.  Recently, Governor John de Jongh of the U.S. Virgin Islands appointed her as a trustee of the University of the Virgin Islands.

Volunteer Opportunity: Eastern Massachusetts Girl Scouts Dream It! Believe It! Be It! Program.

Description: The Tomorrow's Women Today team is pleased to announce that we have been approached by the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts in order to partner with them on their upcoming Dream It! Believe It! Be It! Program, which is set to take place from Friday, February 11th through Sunday, February 13th at the Waltham Girl Scout campus. The program is an intense weekend where high school girls learn the key skills necessary to build a business plan for a product that they design over the course of the weekend and pitch to a panel of judges on Sunday morning.

When: February 11 - 13th

Dr. Paula Johnson Dr. Paula A. Johnson is the Executive Director of the Connors Center for Women's Health and Gender Biology and Chief of the Division of Women's Health at Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Johnson has brought her broad range of experience as a physician, a researcher and as an expert in public health and health policy to the Connors Center.

The Connors Center works to transform the health of women through discovering how disease is expressed differently in women and men as well as integrating leading-edge research about women's health into the delivery of care. The Center is unique in its innovative and interdisciplinary approach to women’s health, which influences health policy, addresses the health of women globally, and trains the next generation of leadership in women’s health.

Charter member Julie Burke is hosting a members-only networking event and get-together at her home in the Back Bay. The event will be in the residents’ lounge and the roof deck. It should be a terrific opportunity for us to get together in a more casual setting. There won’t be a speaker, just an opportunity for informal networking.

When: Sept. 29, 6 pm
Where: One Back Bay, 135 Clarendon St. (Valet parking available underneath or in the garage next to the Back Bay subway station)

We're pleased to announce our next
Tomorrow's Women TODAY event:

"Work and Life Integration", will take place on July 27th at Foley Hoag LLP. 

We will provide more details over the next few weeks but want to get this "Save the Date" out ASAP as we are very excited about the event.  The event will be hosted by Michele Whitham, Esq. who will do a brief presentation on her recent travels/experience hiking Mount Everest. 

We will then have an open panel discussion/Q&A with Michele, Dr. Paula Johnson (Executive Director of the Mary Horrigan Connors Center for Women's Health and Gender Biology Brigham and Women's Hospital), and Diane Hessan (President and CEO of Communispace).  We are still waiting to hear back on another special guest speaker! In addition to some networking and some Tomorrow' s Women TODAY updates - we are hoping to provide you with another great evening.  This event is open to members and non-members... so, please pass this "Save the Date" along.

We are pleased to announce that Renee Loth, who recently stepped down as Editorial Page Editor of the Boston Globe and still writes an influential column for the paper, will be our next breakfast series speaker on April 27. As editorial page editor, Renee was the most senior woman on the editorial side of the Globe. She served as editorial page editor for nearly 10 years, and also has covered presidential campaigns, the Boston mayoral race, the State House, and Congressional stories. 

 The event is for members only, but we’ll reserve one or two spots for women who are interested in joining the group.
